Modem question: How do I find out if my schools server I dial into is...

keep is limiting my connection speed or if it is my modem. I have logged on with paid providers at about 49,000+, sometimes 51,000+ a while ago, but never has my speed been above 45,333 with my school so I suspect there must be a connection. Any help or advice would be great, TIA.

i dunno...you could ask them. Could just be that they don't have as good as hardware on the other end as your ISP did.

more than likely i doubt your school is capping out your dial up connections, but it is possible. the best option is to ask your computer support desk. also, remember that univ do not have as many dialup accounts (since dial up is somewhat archaic) but that youre sharing the available connections with a lot of people, if the univ has a crappy system, then youre gonna get crappy speeds.

Dialup connection speeds are also dependent upon the length and quality of wire between you and your provider, as well as the number of analog->digital (and vice versa) conversions necessary along the way. There was a thread a few days ago about ideal 56k speeds with a link to further information.
