Hey everyone!
OK, it's been years since I've worked with modems so I'm needing some help. A friend of mine has a PC that is giving him modem problems. The specs that I know of are:
Asus A7N266-VM
1 stick of 512MB PC2700
Athlon 2200+XP
The modem is some 56k model from Aopen
AFAIK, he isn't having a problem with anything except the modem. He gets connected to his ISP and everything works fine. After about 10 minutes, the transfers start slowing down to virtually nothing (web pages quit loading, can't check email, etc...) and then he just gets disconnected. He has another PC that he uses, and has no problems online with that unit. So, the problem can't be with the phone line, his ISP, etc... it has to be something in the newer PC that causing the problem. He's running XP Pro, so do you guys have any suggestions on what to check? Could it be a hardware problem with the modem? I've been fortunate enough to have had broadband for over 5 years now so it's been a long time since I've tinkered with modems, and have never messed with one in XP. He's going to drop off the PC tomorrow for me to hopefully fix, so if anyone has any suggestions I'd really appreciate it!
And yes, I've already told him what I thought was the best way to fix it....call Comcast and schedule a cable modem installation...
Thanks,
Tom
