Background - I have plugged my phone line into both my phone and my modem. I used a 1-2 splitter, so the line goes directly into both.

Problem- When I am playing a game (Diablo, Fallout 2, anything...) and the phone rings... bam! the system freezes up. Nothing to do but hit the power button.

Any suggestions? If I run the phone line through a power strip will this solve the problem, or is there a motherboard setting that I need to turn off (IWill KK266)?

Here's a simple solution that might work, since I don't know the nature of the problem:

My modem has two phone jack slots, one that connects to the phone and the other connects to the wall. Instead of using a splitter, connect the phone to the modem, and the modem to the wall. You can still go online, and you can still phone when not doing so. Why not?

One of the reasons I use a splitter is due to the length of the line - my line from the wall will not reach my PC. But, I don't think that's important.

Would any of the "Wake on..." settings in the BIOS be causing this problem?

Or is this a power surge issue where too much power from the ring is coming into my system and messing things up? (this seems unlikely)

Even with the splitter you can do the same thing.

Just hook the line from the wall to the line in as you are now with the splitter and the extension, then just plug the line from the phone to the phone icon plug on the modem. Same thing, just don't have to get a new longer extension.

include *70 in your Dialup phone number (or whatever your local phone company needs) to suspend Call Waiting when you are on the net.
