Just bought a computer off Ebay for my mother and it came with a Aureal combo modem/sound card. Almost everytime that I try to go online the computer just reboots? It is an older system, P2 with Windows 2Ed with 64 M of ram. I've reinstalled it, reinstalled the drivers but nothing seems to work. Sometimes I cam get on but most times it just reboots when I try to go online?
I need help. Any ideas are welcome. Thx

Hi and welcome to the forums.

Need a little bit more information really. You say its a combo sound card/modem - I assume that the sound card is working correctly?

When you say Windows 2Ed I assume you mean Windows 98SE. Does the modem complete the diagnostic check? I'm not on Windows 98 at the moment but from memory Goto Control Panel->Modems and run the modem diagnotic check - does that complete without problems?

Also, go to Control Panel->System->Device Manager - what is listed under the 'Modems' and 'Ports (COM & LPT)' branches? Are there any yellow exclaimation marks?

If you can provide that info, we may be able to help you a little bit better.

hello sorry for the lack of info... yes the sound is working correctly and yes it is 98. And even when I try to run a diagnostic on it
it will reboot. There is no yellow "!" 's there and it states that it is working properly. I don't think that the resourses are too low because I try right after a reboot and I have diabled alot from start-up. !?!

Are you sure that the modem portion of the card is NOT sharing an IRQ with the built in comm ports. Disable the mobo comm ports and try the modem again
