I am trying to setup a Aopen FM56-P PCI modem in win98se. I get the error 'cannot open port' after I install it and I try to run the diagnostic.

Also, win98se can't find the drivers for 'PCI serial device'. Does this have anything to do with the problem? The drivers aren't on the windows CD and I don't know where they are.

I believe I have the external comm ports disable (except for com1 for the mouse). I have heard removing the drivers and trying again can work, but how do you know exactly where the drivers are? The guy I am doing this for said it used to work on com3.

thanks in advance!

Drivers THis is the link for your drivers from Aopen. Com 3 is a virtual port installed by the software usually. You should activate the comports, as this will usually be added off the com2 port.

I have the driver on disk... also, I've always heard you want to disable the physical comm ports if you install an internal modem.

Also, make sure that the "max connection speed" is @ 57k, and not 128k, thats a problem sometimes. New drivers should do the trick.

I never did disable them and always used an internal modem untill I got cable. Mine were LT winmodems and the software set them up to com3
