Modem problem in XP

WinXP will not let me uninstall or change the drivers for my modem from the device manager. Everytime I try it locks up. I have a USR 56K ISA v.90. I assume my problem is that my modem is not XP compatible. I just want to uninstall it and pop in a new PCI modem.

I have a Diamond PCI and I tried to install along with the USR it but then I get a "NTLDR is missing" error during boot up and windows would not load.

I took the USR out physically as well without removing it in windows and got the same "NTLDR..." error.

Any clues on how to uninstall this thing?

Thanks in advance.
