normally id fiddle around until i figure out whats wrong with this, its just a modem, and theres only so many things i can usually try before it detects installs and works just fine

but im sick and my bro has been waiting on having his system going for over a month (had to RMA a hard drive)

anyway, formatted the new hard drive, install windows 98SE and have got everything going fine

ECS K7AMA mobo
athlon 1600+
256mb pc2100
gf2 mx200 pci (other bro broke his AGP port, anyway)
sb live
creative modem blaster

both bros have the same mobo, and they both want me to have the same problems: modem problems

i tried installing a pci modem on younger bro's pc and somehow, when i couldnt get it to work, he just made a new dial up connection and it started working

bastard

but, other bros new system only recognizes a new PCI comm device, every time i install the creative modem blaster i get one of two things:
windows gives me the "this driver isnt written specifically for your hardware" message (a lie) installes the drivers, and the modem is on com port 5
or, it installs fine, and wont work on either com port "windows is not recieving a response from the modem, turn it on or off..."

so, this week im sick, likely not thinking of everything i could do, impatient, and fed up with toying with this modem
id just appreciate any ideas anyone could give me to try to get this thing working

thanks in advance

A couple of ideas:

1. Are the sound cards, modems, etc. plugged into the same slots on both machines? If not, you could have an interrupt conflict on the one that isn't working.

2. Try swapping modems between the machines to see if the problem is with the modem.

I'll be back if anything else comes to mind. :)
