Modem or router issue? Something else?

Yesterday I noticed my PC did not have internet access (according to the icon in the lower right of the screen). I noticed my Modem did not have the "Online" light on and the Send light was flashing. Unplugged/replugged modem and all was fine. this morning I noticed the same notification on my PC. Modem appeared fine. I rebooted my PC, no help. Unplugged/replugged modem, no help. All of the correct light were still on. So then i powered down my PC, unplugged router and modem. Plugged modem back up and let it sync. PLugged router in and let it sync. Then started PC. All was well again.

Modem is surfboard 5101 , router is Linksys WRT54GS with latest f/w (but only running wired).

The first issue seemed like modem which is simple to replace. The issue this morning seems questionable as to what the culprit was. Any way of narrowing it down? like does the router keep a log of the incoming connection so I can tell if the modem is the problem? Any other ideas?

it may be the router, and the PC's on the router may be conflicted.
Why I say
Router - may need to increase lease time, check out whether your router has connect on demand/keep alive.
PC - is it static or dynamic?, are there other PC's in your home (are they static/dynamic).

Whatever it is, it's very minute, being that if you restart everything, it works again.

everything is dynamic. I have several devices that use the network.
My pc (daily use)
Wife's pc (daily use)
samsung tv (check weather occasionally)
blu ray player (stream netflix occasionally)
tivo (daily calls)
WD TV Live (just got it set up two nights ago, not sure if it is responsible for this issue)

As I said, the WD LIve is the newest device but I can't be sure it is related to the problem.

Never heard of "increase lease time," but I'll check into it.

It is minute but it's happened twice in two days. If I have to reset everything daily it will be more than minute.
