Modem keeps answering the phone

Hi everyone,

I am currently having a problem with my modem, it's a rockwell based ISA 56K.

After about 2 or 3 rings, it very kindly answers the phone for me and makes fax noises down the line at the caller.

This is starting to get really annoying, especially if the caller witholds their number so I have no idea who called.

I've had some limited advice saying that some string codes need to be entered into Hyperterminal (running Windows ME), it keeps wanting me to set up a new internet connection when I go in there though (I already have one).

Any other way of turning off this modem pick up thing??

Thanks

Hmm. It's been ages but You may want to look up the codes. It will set your modem so that it doesn't automatically answer the phone. You need to look these up for your modem I think although there is a semi-standard with the string commands.
