After doing a fresh install of XP last nite I get into windows and everythign is working and what not so I decide to install my modem. I shut down, insert modem, go to reboot and my computer will turn on but nothing shows on screen. I take the modem out and it boots instantly. Did this several times. I tried putting modem in different PCI slots but nothing worked. Ideas?

It should not be shot, I just pulled it out of a computer. And even if it didn't work then that shouldn't prevent computer from booting should it?

It depends on why it was shot, if it is.

Can you put it back in the computer you took it out of and check if it still works?

Nope, unfortanetaly I can't. Oh well, I'm having other problems with my new computer... This one is a bit trivial for the moment. Besides, i'll get broadband in "2-3 months max"

You can get a usb modem, they are nice 'n easy.
Relatively cheap as well.

Sorry - its not worth going further with the present modem unless you can try it out on another systerm. Did you take ESD precautions, or were you wearing a nice fleecey jumper and nylon socks on a carpet?
