modem connection

i know i posted this before, but i need help, my stupid modem connects but no programs run. i can ping external address, yahoo.com and such, but ie, netscape all crash. they work fine with files on my hd, but as soon as i try to use them on the net they crash.

anyone have any ideas. it's not the modem, or drivers, i've tried two dif. modems, and reinstalling windows over itself, and the same thing happend with my other computer. any suggestions either than reformat and install.

Just for fun, you might want to try specifying some DNS entries in tcp/ip for your dial-up adapter.

for example, you can try one of penn state's dns servers: 128.118.25.3
