Modem blaster problems on a BE6-II mb

I just bought a PCI modem blaster and it starts to connect (I get all the sounds and stuff) but it never logs me into my ISP. I have tried connecting it to every COM port and have disabled COM 1 and 2 in my bios, which did not help at all. The modem that I had in the system was an ISA modem and it still works fine. Should I return the PCI and get the ISA modem blaster or should this work in my system? Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks..
