I have a problem with the modem and sound card.
First of all, my modem and sound card works fine.
However, whenever I use them at the same time
ie: browsing and listen to music
I get blue screen .........
But if I use them separately, there is no problem.
Does anyone know why??

I'm thinking it's the conflict of the IRQ, but I'm not very sure about it. Please help me.
Thanks in advance.

what irq is each using? posting a full irq list would be helpful.
you could always move one of the cards to another slot in case they are conflicting with one another(device manager is not the best at telling you this) irqwise because they're in shared slots on your m/board!

The modem and soundcard could be sharing same irq, it may not couse conflict in the device manger, but it could make a bluescreen like u said.
Both soundcard and modem are harware items that can not share irq very good. Change the irq so that they do not share and install the latest or the best working driver.

Go into device manager. Highlight "My Computer" (or whatever you have it named) at the top of the device tree and select Properties. This will show you a list of all your IRQs and what hardware is assigned to them.

Look for your modem or soundcard sharing the same IRQ. Your soundcard probably uses more than 1 IRQ, so keep that in mind also.

If they are sharing an IRQ you have a couple options. Move the card or cards to different PCI slots. Some PCI slots are forced to share IRQs. You can also free IRQs by disabling unused COM or LPT ports. For example, I have a USB printer, so I disabled LPT1 along with COM2 (which most people don't use) and freed up 2 IRQs, which made everything in my computer a lot happier.

Thanks everyone.
It was my friend's computer, and I will try to fix it for him this weekend. Thanks a lot.
By the way, the sound card was "on board" sound card, so I guess I will have to move my modem to different PCI slot ....

Why will you have to move the modem to a different PCI slot. The slot doesn't dictate what IRQ is used. Just go to device manager, right click the modem and click the settings tab and change the irq.

good luck
