Ok, I just ordered an SMC Barricade 4 port router and bought three Linksys nics. We are going to get RoadRunner pretty soon, but I wanted to get the network set up first. Now, on to my question. If I install the nics now, can we still get online using our indivigual modems? (don't have an external to connect to the Barricade) I was just thinking because a computer can only have one ip correct? If so then the computers would get their ips from the barricade, but when we dial up would we be assigned a different one to use the internet? Thanks for your help.

You would get a different TCP setup for the modem, which will have its own IP address. I think is similar to ahving 2 nics in one PC 1 for internet, 1 for network. Both are basically on seperate networks, both have different IPs. So even though I haven't done this I believe it would work fine.

Modem uses DialUP adapter.

RR will come through Ethernet connection, they can exsist together.

Since you have a Router, you will be able to share RR.

The Modem will work only on the computer that it is installed in.

I kept a modem and dialup connection in one of my systems for backup in case the DSL connection ever goes down. They peacefully co-exist just fine.
