Hi for my science project at school I have to use recycled materials such as carboard, sticks bottle caps wood etc to build a small electric car which moves. I have a motor, switch and a battery holder. I am wondering if anybody knows how i make axles etc and to make the car move.

thx

To make an axle you glue the center of a wheel onto each end of a round wooden rod. Make sure the wheels are pointed straight ahead when they roll (properly aligned) and not tilted inward or outward when they roll (not cambered).

What does it have to move? If its only itself, then you don't have to have a transmission (makes the wheels spin slower than the motor).

You would probably make the lower frame first (like a rectangle), and this has to have someplace to hold the wheels (look at a bike to see how the wheels are attached). Put the axle through the center of a small rubber band. Then attach the wheels to the frame. The body should have a place to mount the motor (like a little shelf inside the body). The motor should be mounted so that it spins the same direction as the wheels want to go (not sideways to the direction of the wheels). Attach the body with the mounted motor to the frame, and put the rubber band around the spinning part of the motor. If the rubber band is on tight enough, when you flip the switchthe axle will rotate, which will turn the wheels and away it goes. It'll probably go really fast.

Is the basis of how a motor makes a simple car work really a "highly technical" issue.

Although Turkey gives a very good explanation, I am torn between whether or not it is a joke, becasue it is such common sense.
