The new toyota 2008 highlander has a full Electric Vehicle mode where the car can run solely on battery, but only for ONE MILE due to the NiMh battery.

Since Prius modding into Lithium is so common and with the larger space of the Highlander, shouldn't it make the modding job easier to put in a large lithium battery pack, and make the vehicle into a very useable EV car?

Problem is cost and weight.

The mroe weight you have, batteries, the less milage you will get. Then after adding the EXTRA cost it would have to work very well to pay for itself.

Agreed.
Friend of my friend commercially installs battery packs in Toyota Prius so they get 100mpg - same thing. Pius will not pay for itself, the battery will not pay, but people can say that they are green.

The rumors are that the next generation of Prius will achieve ~100mpg. Are they using Lithium batteries or are these just bogus rumors?
