Modding the new Athlon Packaging, 27648 OPGA

Has anyone been able to mod the new packaging from AMD? It is being used on the 2400+ and the Barton.

I have one 2400+ which is 27291 OPGA, and I was able to bridge L5 to emulate an MP, but my new 2400+ is 27648 OPGA and there is some kind of coating or something on it which covers the bridges.

Has anyone heard any success stories with the new packaging?

I am tempted to get my exacto knife out and see if I can scrape off the coating... but I hate to throw $$$ away if it is not renders the CPU useless :-(

Which motherboard are you using?

The latest BIOS for both ASUS & MSI dual cpu motherboards have an option to disable checking of MP cpus. Try to simply disable and see if it will boot and recognize 2 XP cpus

I did not look for that option, but I will in a second.

I wonder if they won't overclock as well, seeing as how the circuitry seems to be closer to the surface of the package, they might recieve some interferance? Maybe not. =)

I verified I had the latest BIOS update from Tyan and searched through the settings but could not find a setting which seemed anything close to MP checking... :-(

The good news is, I called around to more stores yesterday and found another 2400+ with the 27291 OPGA. If I am willing to buy another I know I can get my dual 2400+ working but then I have an extra 2400+

Someone might buy it... hell, I might buy it =) How much would you want for it?

I paid $155 CDN and want $100 CDN + shipping. Which is about $72 USD + shipping.

It is an unopened 2400+ retail package which includes a three clip fan.

BTW, I did buy the 27291 OPGA 2400+ this AM and am now running dual traced XPs

Is there a pin mod to turn an XP to MP? Does anyone know what's the corresponding pins for the L5 bridge?
