Has anyone added an 80mm fan in place of the 60? I was lookin at the pic [haven't gotten mine in yet] over at Cooltek and the hs looks a little bigger one way than the fan. Any thoughts/ideas?

I've seen this done a variety of ways;

1. Using a small spring (like inside a ballpoint pen that retracks), attached to the fan, and the both sides of the HSF clip.

2. Using zip ties;

3. Using a converter which has a 60mm X 60mm base, and fans out to a 120mm X 120mm top where you can mount the fan. I've seen people use cardboard, but I think the thermal properties would be horrible :) I've also seen metal, but I'm unsure that the gap between the HSF and the converter would be a good thing...

Using a 120mm x 120mm fan would be ideal, since it would move lots of CFM at a much lower dB. Even moreso if you use a resistor on the + lead, causing it to spin a little slower...

I've done exactly that, modded a 32-1 with an 80mm fan.

All you need is a 80mm fan guard, then you screw the guard onto the side of the fan that will attach to the heatsink using self tappers (the standard ones for fans). Then you remove the 60mm fan from the heatsink, now re-attache the wire clips that are used for holding the standard fan to that sink, & then you hook the end bits (that hook into the screw holes of the standard 60mm fan) arround the guard ring that lines up closest.

Get a ADDA 60mm Fan 16.1dBA only. First you think the Fan isn't working cuz you can't hear it ;)
