I remember hearing that you can modify the intel stock HSF so that it runs at max speed all the time. Can anyone provide a link or information about how to do this? On a related note, how does this affect my 3 yr warranty. If i try to RMA the chip at some point, will they want the cooler back with it? Will this mode void my waranty? Thanks

You could take the fan off and put one on that runs at the speed you want it to?

No, I know there is some way to modify the fan. You peel off the sticker and can deactive the thermal resistor.

well then if it is adjustable via thermal probe, take off sticker and whatnot
take a soldering iron and solder off the resistor and solder the remaining wires up

that works on other fans which have a thermsistor to control the airflow, it should work on this too im thinking...

thanks for all the info guys, i think that id be better off just buying a new heatsink. What sugguestions you guys got? Watercooling is giong to run like 250$ right? Any anything more extreme like a TEC probably more. Best standard HSFs seem to be the Swiftechs (MCX4000 or 462) or the Alpha 8942. It seems though like Coolermaster IHC-H71 seems real good too, as does a few others. Im planning to but a Vantec Tornado on there with an extermal speed regulator, so i can use it to play games and leave it on at night sometimes.
