Got a great deal on an Xbox. Guy I know is a professional Xbox modder, and he can install a chip in it for $50 installed.. for $75 he can install my 80gb seagate too...what do you think?

Well, $50 for the modchip installed isn't a bad deal. Even a solderless one can be a little tricky if you don't know what you're doing.

As for the HD? That's quite simple to install. If you have ever put a HD in a PC, you can put one in the XBOX. So, you can find a good deal on a HD on here, you could save some money. Of course, you'd have to reload all of the XBOX stuff onto the new HD, so having him do it would save you that effort.

(and so you know, replacing the HD will result in you getting banned from Xbox Live)

do it yourself, I've done 2, they arent that hard, and they are fun as hell. forums @ Xbox Scene have all the info you need. Lots of tutorials and pcis!

I reccomend the Xecutur 3 chip, I used it on both of my mods, no problems. also I really thought highly of BmMods.com for ordering my stuff. Fast shiping, and fair pricing

once the chip is installed, load up the bios and slayers and away you go...less than 30 minutes work..

If you have a vers 1.0-1.5 xbox Get the X.B.I.T. If you have a 1.6 get the spiderchip. Both of which are available at divineo and require no soldering. Very easy stuff.

I would definetly have him install the modchip. The chip he will be using is the Aladdin.

I know it is cheaper, and he offered to put in a Xenium ICE, but paying $55 for a modchip for an xbox I paid $99 for didn't seem write. All I care about it loading up some stuff like emulators.

I could do the hard drive install myself, but he has all of the discs to load everything on, and he knows what he's doing. His userid is Palmore on xbox-scene, so anyone on there knows he really is a "professional xbox modder"

by the way, I havent received the Xbox yet (comes tomorrow), but I believe it is Version 2-5.... I dont think it is version 6

Thanks

If you didn't install that mod chip yet, you can save most of that money. I did a softmod on my xbox last night, and it is awesome. I didn't want to spend the money on a chip and didn't really want to even open my xbox. Using save game exploits you can change the bios and dashboard on the xbox. Check out the softmod section of the xbox-scene tutorials for info. I recommend this method if you don't feel like spending the money or dont feel comfortable installing a chip. This is completely reversible. I all the file you'd need if you decide to go this route.

Good luck and have a blast with it!

Depends on the chip. Also the hdd you can probably do yourself. I changed mine myself. Was a snap.
