Modding my Promedias

I've got an idea.

The BASH amp in the Promedia's is supposed to give 160w (I think) to the subs. I don't like the sub because it's too much midbass for me. It doesn't go low enough. So, I pulled off the back of the amp, and checked the resistance load on the subs, 4 ohms. Well, I happen to have a Solobaric 15 lying around that isn't being used. It happens to be a SVC 4 ohm too.

Well, if I disconnect the subs, I could run that wire to my 15, and see if it gives me any better bass then this thing. Only worry is that it will play too much midbass still, (over 90hz) to the solo and make it sound muddy like it does.

What do you guys think?

If it did work, I would think that you would have a big gap in the mids. How low do the satellites go? I wouldn't think too low being only 3" drivers.

160W will probably be the absolute maximum transient power the amp could provide under optimal circumstances. Having listened to a Hi-Fi sub rated at 100W sinus power, I simply don't believe that the klipsch sub puts out 160W. You'll probably find that the music power is significantly lower.

Doesnt the amp on the klipsches determine what goes to the subwoofer? I was under the impression that whatever you use for a sub it'll receive the same input. It's certainly worth a try anyway. I've found that replacing the front speakers in my DTT3500 with a pair or two-way bookshelves greatly improves the sound. It's always worth trying hybrid systems if you've got spare kit lying around.

That was my only fear too. Klipsch uses the sub to play all the way to about 150hz. I used a sin sweep, and that's about where it drops off pretty sharp. I'll try and hook something up later to see how well it goes.
