Modding my case for the first time....

Hi guys...

well, i have just purchased a new PC...which is on its way to me right now ....and i am thinking for adding lights n gizmos to its casing....

this is the case:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811196019

I dont want to do extensive stuff like modding the casing itself or anything...i am just looking for adding small attractive stuff right now like LED lights, a cool looking fan controllers and stuff....

here's what i have thought of so far:

1) I am planning to add 2 of these on the fan mounts located on the window:

http://www.xpcgear.com/120ccflblue.html

The only difference is that the ones I will probably get will emit UV light, so that the motherboard lights up...and the colour will probably be green, not blue

2) Then I am planning to add 2 cannon lights, exactly at the same position as in this pic: http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/4515/cannon2zi.jpg

2) and directly underneath the cannon LEDs, I am planning to add 2 of these:

the only thing confusing me is the colour scheme.....i think green will look good with the blue, and I dont know that out of the above 3 mods, which should be blue and which should be green....:?

also, please suggest any other changes that you would like...🙂

the position that i have chosen for the cannon LEDs and the tubes, is so that when I open the front door (to open the DVD drive etc..), the cannon LEDs and the tubes will move with the door, making a nice effect....

lastly, what will happen about the wiring..?? where will i wire all these mods ?? and is there any way to hide the wires, so that they are not visible??

and what is an inverter ? every mods seems to require it....

The LEDS and Cannon lights will use 4 pin molex connectors most likely, so you can tuck those in behind drive bays, under HDDs, wherever you think hides them best. The CCFLs will need inverters though, but there are some inverters that can handle 2 CCFLs, so you only need 1 in your case. Just tape the inverter next to the window and run its molex to a 4 pin on the PSU. shouldn't be too hard to hide.

btw see the wiring guide on cases and cooling

i mean to say, that if the cannon LEDs are *outside* the case, then their respective wires would need a path to go into the casing, right ?? if this is correct, then where do I provide this path ? make a hole or something ?

and what are inverters ? what do they do ?

also, please give me a link to the guide you are refering to .....

Your case link doesn't work for me - IAC, you should tell the name of the case along with giving the link - only those that don't know the case already will need to use the link and many of us already know... I hate to chase links unnecessarily!

also, regarding the mods I have suggested above....i think i need some way of connecting the wires of the mods outside the casing (tubes and cannon LEDs), to the power supply inside the casing....how do i do this ??

Drill a small hole in the case where the devie will be. Cut the power cord for the device, thread it through the hole and recconnect the cord.

Hrm...

Well, I've got a Mountain Mods U2-UFO case ordered, and on the way, so I've been checking out their customer gallery, trying to get some ideas...

IMHO, blue and green go good together, if you don't get too carried away. For instance: Pic

I think this looks good, but I didn't know why at first. Then, I realized he stuck a white light on the bottom of the case.

Anyway... see what you think.

none of the pics are linked click http and put the url and the text. You still haven't told us what case it is.

He does need to do some work on posting links - it's the Aerocool Aero Engine II.

AT Forums Link syntax:

{L=Proxy word or phrase}url{/L}

Example:
{L=BUY MY STUFF:}pttp://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=45&threadid=1746988{/L}

Replace curly braces '{' with brackets '[' when you do it for real! And of course the pttp should bh http... I did it that way so all could see the syntax.

Here's how it looks for real: BUY MY STUFF:

But this one links to MY stuff NOT yours. 😉

Newegg Link to AEII
