Modding Domestic vs. Modding Import

How come making any modification to an import is instantly considered rice, but modding domestics is perfectly acceptable?

I make any mention of putting a bolt on part(not a bodykit/spoiler/whatever) on my 240SX and it is rice, but people talk about doing all kinds of mods to their Mustangs and their just "cool".

Is it just that import haters have taken over?

Personally I'd consider you riced if you plastered stickers all over your windows/car and/or had a HUUUUUUGE spoiler. I'm still working on an acceptable name for the domestic equivalent but for now "dumb@ss" works.

Ricey mods are ricey. That's all there is to it.

Yeah, they are just more prevalent on imports.

Indeed.

prolly cause their mustangs are faster than your 240sx?

eh. theres a lot of people who just bash imports cause they think theyre cool that way. beh.

So what defines "ricey" mods?

Any of the following I would consider rice:

Neon paint job
Hood painted different color than the rest of the car
Any graphics
Altezza's on a car where they don't belong
Huge Ass Spoiler(including the ones on the WRX and EVO)
Spoiler on FWD car
Any body kit I have ever seen
Hoods with giant vents

I don't consider the following rice:

Suspension Mods
Brakes
Rims
Engine Mods
Gearing, etc.

What do you guys think?

ROFL .. .you do know majority of the mustangs that are out there are V6's they are slow as shiet.

Unless it's a GT or higher ... it's a POS

That's the basic agreeable definition of rice. However, adding an CAI and exhaust is borderline rice because in terms of actual performance there is very little gain w/out actual engine modifications. "Yea I got 25hp with my CAI and exhaust" - BS, in reality maybe 10 if you're lucky total. But in general, if it actually makes it go faster it's not rice

By that logic anything slower than a Mustang/Camaro is rice.

So if I have a McLaren F1 is your Corvette rice?

a 4banger 240sx could prolly edge out a v6 stang..

My Corolla could prolly edge out a V6 stang..at least an auto convertible 🙂

Spoiler on FWD car
Oh jeez...I guess my factory spoiler makes me a ricer..dang.

People do make fun of mustangs with big ass wings and stuff.

..just not here. Well, I guess they would...but somehow the conversation is always bashing imports...except Nissan. 😛

Modding an import is not, by default, rice.

I've seen some damn tastefully modded import cars.

I've also seen some damn disgustingly untastefully modded domestic cars.

"Rice" to me is any car which has passed a threshold of decency. It's any bolt-on that doesn't add jack squat to the aesthetics or performance of the vehicle, like a dual exhaust from the cat-back, or a bunch of stickers that amount to nothing more than publicly displayed autobation.

It's a huge spoilers on either an Accord or a Cougar. It's Altezza tailights on a Civic or a Cavalier.

It's ugly, and it's weak, and its owners are too stupid to realize it.

That's what rice is.

first thing some people on this forum say is RICE to any imports posted... bunch of ignorant bungholes.

with the Exception of the V8 Camaros, Mustangs and Firebirds... their 6 cyl counterpart ( majority on the road ) are all pieces of sh1ts. Talk about slow, and heavy. yet they think it's the fastest sh1t on the road.
