modding an x-connect PSU

I've noticed my Ultra X-Connect 500W PSU is pretty loud most of the time. so, I was thinking of swapping out the (2) 80mm fans for just (1) 92mm fan.

The 92mm is rated for the same airflow as the 80mm's I believe.

I've already taken the PSU apart and a 92mm will fit easily, a 100mm would if I could find one.

Do you think this is worth the time? / would work?

The 92mm fan is rated 10+ db lower than the ultra fans

ive swapped out fans in several different powersupplies (when a fan is going bad... or if its just to dang loud)

ive never had any problems with it

although personally if your ps comes with 2x80mm fans then i would replace them with another 2x80mm fans (not 1x 90mm) i like the near silent panaflo

another option would be to just keep your existing fans, but instead of running them full speed at 12v you can run them at 7v or 5v (which will slow/quiet them down alot)

yeah I really can't find any 80mm fans that move as much air as the stock ones do and still be more quiet.

I guess I'll just live with it until I can afford a seasonic

i tried putting in different fans in my x-connect, but the pins are weird...

I suggest just cutting and splicing the wires... and do it nice with butt connectors, not electrical tape!!! 😀
