I was given an iMac G3 (600MHZ 40GB/256MB/CDRW) and I just spent $$ on upgrades as the HDD Was dead and or dying and it would not read CDs and I thought what the hell so I upped the ram to the max (1GB) and it works for a day or two and then the CRT goes poof:mad: (The computer still works just no picture on the internal CRT) and my LCD says "Out of range" so I went into my garage and I dug out my mammoth Sony CPD-G500 and it works great (A little slow but it works) So my question is what parts of the Motherboard *Excuse me* Logic Board (Damn Apple and there terms:awe:) do I need for the iMac to work
I read way back when (When the G3 was still realvent) that you can use an ATX PSU to power the iMac but since that was along time ago most of those sites are POOF just like my CRT in the iMac

So what can I do with 40LBS of computer that I just spent $44.96 on "Upgrades"
And I want a working computer out of this so NO fishtanks etc

Thanks

What are you trying to use it for anyway? The thing is so old, I don't think it's worth sinking more money and time into it.

Do not put money in a computer so old. If it works then fine

Well it did work until I put my $ into it?
Stupid iHardware
I like the iSoftware (OSX) but not the iHardware (iMac) I had it for about a month and I became so used to OSX that I actually like it

Could my "New" hard disk have over stressed the iMacs power supply? The one I removed from it was a 40GB/5400RPM and the one I replaced it with was a 123.50GB/7200RPM

anyway I did find a couple of guides but I am scared of the CRT so I will probably just sell it for parts (Remove the parts that I can and dump the rest)

The problem is the iMac will boot up and then shut off and I see no picture on the internal CRT but my Sony CPD-G500 will show a Sad Mac (Flashing) until the computer turns off

Just to pile on... ;)

You'll get way more usability out of a refurb original iPad than a modded iMac G3. And I say that as someone who thinks the original iPad is very slow. Then again, a refurb iPad is $349. :p

In 2011, I probably wouldn't even attempt to upgrade anything that is less than a G4 1 GHz, except as a working art piece or something (like my G4 450 Cube).

You probably accidentally all up in ur logic board when you tried to make it go over 9,000.

Those iMacs are easy to break.

Using OS X on a G3 is not fair to yourself or OS X. I'm surprised you actually came to like it.

My advice, as a longtime mac user who also likes having money in his pocket, is to get an old Thinkpad and throw Xubuntu on it.
