Ok, so i got two 400W PSU and I'd like to use 'em both on a PC rather than go out and buy another 500W PSU ( or just for the sheer fun of doing some modding :D ). I've googled around quite a bit and have come across guides for running 2 PSUs, but all of them require both PSU's to be plugged into mains. Is there a way to wire 2 PSUs so that only one of them is plugged into the mains but both of them power up? If so, how can this be done? Links to guides? Thanks.

I would not think so,
you would have to split the supplies apart to do that, and then i would be worried about 1 power cord running all that current though it.
It might be fine but i would be worried about it.

May I ask exactly why you would only want to occupy one outlet in the wall with two power supplies in use? That is kinda frightening. I can tell you numerous ways to get them up and running together, but as far as plugging them into out outlet, um. I don't know. Sorry. I was hoping 'mains' meant motherboard.

It could be wired cleanly on the inside in order to have only one wire to connect on the outside, and would actually most likely work correctly [3 wires to get from the first PSU to the second PSU]... however, I'm not sure you want 120V in your case, outside the psu

solder three wires to the connectors inside the PSU and the 120V will be supplying both PSUs, and you'll have a few warranties to not worry about anymore [void]

Since you said "mains" I assume you are not located here in the States. We can get stacking power cables here so that you can plug the power cord of one into the back of another so you only take up one power outlet. IDK if you can get such a thing there. If not, just use a power strip or maybe something like this adapter would work for you.

Thanks guys, I think I'll just get a stacking power cable, would probably be a lot safer :)
