Ok, since you don't seem to understand and its not OUR fault that there are 600 posts in the other thread, let me explain. The reason why its a 600 post thread is because basically its a brag/moan/how to? thread all rolled into one. Now all that anyone is doing in that thread is bragging about how they got a plextor, moaning that they got a sanyo and they can't upgrade the firmware or what not or its just not a rebadged plextor and they're upset like babies and they want to return it or sue the store, or its a how do i know that my burner is a plextor? when it was stated over and over in the threads what you had to look for to figure it out for yourself. Seriously how hard is it to see if you have 1 led or 2, I guess those people can't count or something. Now you just want to get special treatment because I guess you're lazy to go through 600 posts of information only relevant to those that bought the burner, so what you've created basically is a reference to the other thread so they can go back and make a longer thread out of the other one and brag about what I bought or can I moan about it, or for the slightly dense people, um so do I have a plextor or not? Like Lundog said, "Post the hottest prices and deals you've found on the net in the AnandTech Hot Deals forum." Not, let the answers come to me easily on my 56k modem.

nemaNIN, check the HOT DEALS forum at FatWallet. I believe I saw a thread there discussing the subject and you WON'T be subjected to a squawking gaggle of group-groping, tit-sucking, anal-retentive, runny-nosed, pocket-protector-shining, Snot Lappers like you've just seen come crawling out from under every slime slavered rock here in THIS swamp.

Thank GOD and ALL the Heavens! that they and their fellow Maggit-Chompers here are too interdependently linked through their shared single chromosome to have survived the mass exodus and proceeded to emanate their odiferous assault there. Not to mention the fact that they'd be eighty-sixed in a New York second for the kind of carrion they've just regurgitated all over themselves here and are so hurriedly reingesting.

Some people still have a firm enough understanding of respect, manners, and REALITY to comprehend the fact that they truly aren't Internet Hall Monitors and can still cerebrate and implement the concept of respect for and deference towards others. You won't find very many of them left here though. The increasingly foul stench long ago became so excruciatingly intolerable to decent folk as to mandate their leaving the buzzards far far behind.

OK Here is an eye opener.

Sanyo makes Plextor.

YES. That's right. The same SANYO Brand you try to avoid when buying TV's, VCR's, Stereo. Cuz they suck.

But with CDR's people say its the best.

So there it is, PLEXTOR=SANYO....The whole cdr drive is made by SANYO Electronics. It's badged with PLEXTOR sticker. Don't believe me ASK SANYO or Plextor themselves.

Last time I checked, Plextor made their own drives. They might use certain parts that they do not manufacture, but they are not rebadged anythings. If you want a Plextor, buy a Plextor, like I did. If you want to take a chance, buy something else and hope. At any rate, $99 for a 12x burner surely qualifies as a smokin hot deal in my book.

how about guessing what it likely would be without possibly opening the box?

I have Job Order43070 on the box, Assembled in China, I ordered on 12/21/00, and Purchase order NO. is wb50791.

I think there's a decent chance mine fits the Plextor range...

Why is everyone troubled by the fact that they might get a Sanyo drive? For $99 after rebate this deal can't be beat!!! Why worry about opening the box and finding a Sanyo, if it is sell it on Fleabay!!! Then use the profit to buy a true Plextor or the TDK if you have to have the name. Plextor or Sanyo Iomega either one is truely a HOT DEAL for $99!!! Just my opinion of course.

but, but, but, I bought a Mazda B2000 and got a Ford?!?! Or is it you bought a Ford Ranger and got a Mazda B2000?!?!?

Oh yeah, I wanted a plextor drive so I bought one... Hot deal and all. Not sure if it is a rebagged drive or not, but is say plexwriter in big letters on the front. Geez folks if you are specific on what you want, why not BUY what you want?

Can someone start another thread telling me that my Iomega could be a Plextor? We need more than just 3 threads on this hot deal. And the MOD are PLZ to allow it as long as it says CompUSA Iomega 12X10X32.

Grow up people. We are here to share knowledge and money saving oppertunities. Not the insensitive and immature comments that 12 yr olds make.

I think the reason people are concerned is that the Sanyo's cannot be reflashed with the Plextor firmware that will allow it to use Burn Proof. As for ASPI errors first thing you need to do is run ASPICheck(its out there somewhere) and see if your machine is set up correctly. If its not correcting it involves installing a nonexistent SCSI device, running the ASPI upgrade program at Adaptec, and uninstalling the device. BTW I'm glad I have an Acer(8mb cache).
