Mod my 9700PRO???

Would a Thermaltake Crystal Orb with 8 tin coated copper BGA ramsinks help in cooling down my card. Its a conjunction of wanting more cooling, and a better appearance. Right now at stock speeds (CPU, and Video) the video Memory is quite hot to the touch, and sometime freezes during the Games 4 of both 3dmark01 and 03. I have quite a few fans near the card. When I open the case, and point a house fan at it all benchmark run fine. This did not happen until I upgraded my CPU from 1600+ to a 2600+. Could it be that it is working harder due to the new CPU.

ur cpu & RAM are your bottlenecks ... not the 9700pro

give them better cooling or upgrade

Why are you using pc2100 RAM with a 2600 AMD? Your CPU is good, but pc2100 ram is for 266 Bus speeds not 333 speeds like the 2600 AMD. You need pc2700 or higher. Then you will be able to run the CPU at 166. With that ram you can't really run the CPU any higher then 133.

The XP2600+ that I have is a 133fsb model. I run it at 150fsb for games. It is a great improvement over the 1600+, well except for the freezing part.

If you're experiencing lockups with an overclocked FSB, then scale back the FSB overclock. You might want to check out the CPU/Overclocking forum's various stickies on this sort of thing.

The lockup occur when all the time even at 133.

I've never seen a 133 model of a 2600 + . A AMD 2600+ is 166 Mhz bus. Great, now AMD's PR system got me confused.

AMD originally only produced the 2600+ in 266 flavor. When they introduced that 2700+ and non Barton 2800+ they went to 166fsb, and added the 2600+ 333. They discontinued the 2600+ 266 soon there after. They are more expensive than there 333 brothers, due to lack of availability. I just recently purchased mine (2 weeks), and it has proven to be a great overclocker. It does 2400mhz (150X16) on a crappy MB with stock Vcore (1.65). The next step up in FSB would be 166.66 on the K7S5A which would equal 2666.66mhz. I do not think it will make it, since I can neither adjust the Vcore, or the multiplier, nor am I brace enought to try.

I have heard that the TT Crystal Orbs are horrible. Try watercooling.
