.mod music

.s3m / .stm > .mod

Future Crew (esp. Skaven) rocks. I used to have tons of their music and demos.
That's where I got my username actually..they had a small demo called "Amnesiac."

For anyone still lost, .mod files and Screamtracker files (s3m) are pretty much notated files like .MID except all the samples are embedded as opposed to using an offboard sound bank.

Awesome, thanks. I've been googling the past fifteen minutes or so and have been having a hard time finding s3m files that aren't 404s.

Amnesiac: Thanks for the link! 🙂 I'd completely forgotten about Catch that Goblin, will have to check it out tonight...

http://www.scene.org is still up and they have a fair amount of stuff. Hornet.org used to be the big archive but they've been gone for a while. I like Five Musicians a lot, there's even MP3 versions of their tracks available on scene.org.

I remember the good ol' BBS days where I discovered .mod musics. Sort of like a mix between .mid and gameboy with additional percussion.

I just wandered across http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=9357.. the music rocks. Time to google to see if .mod is still alive and kicking 🙂

edit: link ified

The music in your link is known as chipmusic. Chipmusic is made to emulate the sound of C64 music. Not all mods sound like this though. Some mods actually sound very very good. The lastest game that i know of that uses mods for music was Deus Ex, IMO one of the best games ever made!
