mod a 9800 pro or wait

my main requirement is to have a good video card by the time I head back to school in late august, but I'll need a week or so to put everything together as well.
so the question is this, would I be better of getting the 9800 Pro 256/256 from Newegg for 223.50, and mod it, or wait and get one of the new geforces?
do you guys think that in 1 month for $250 or maybe $300 I'll be able to get a noticably better card than what the modded 9800 pro would give me?

You should be fine with the 9800pro.

If you can wait for 8 to 9 months for the 16-pipe geforces.....coz that's how long it will PROBABLY be to get to the price range you mentioned.
