mod: 9700pro ~ fire gl x1???

i saw a modded bios thats supposed to convert a 9700 pro into a fire gl x1 :Q...

anyone tried this??? and do i need an agp pro50 bus to do it?

I HIGHLY doubt that it really modifies the board to a Fire Gl X1. Asside from the fact that the Pro50 AGP will be missing (as in the fact that the Pro50 AGP uses extra paths on the AGP port connector, which is why there is a spacer in there if you own an AGP Pro50 compatible motherboard right now). It MAY enable some of the optimization that the board does, but it will not be anything like the real board (it might be close, but it will be severely lacking in the bandwidth department).

AGP Pro is only required for the FireGL X1 256MB model, AFAIK. The BIOS mod might change clockspeeds or internal optimizations, but it still won't get you the higher quality parts and dual DVI of a real FireGL.

i wanna try it, but i dont need to f up my vid card to get 5 fps more or something.... i could be a good mod... but, then, if this modded bios does kick @$$, wouldnt we have heard about it already? ;)

It only kicks ass if you happen to be using Maya all the time. For gaming, it will most likely decrease your performance slightly, because you will need to be using FireGL drivers (optimized for workstation applications, not games) with your "FireGL" card.
