Mobos with Raid & Prmoise ATA 100 cards

I've built several systems but I've had a few lingering questions.

Is there any univeral way to make the RAID (IDE 3 and IDE 4) to use as normal IDE say using as HD's, zips or CD-ROMS.

I know some boards can do it but MSI seems to be lacking in their tech FAQs. Some of the boards MSI K7T Turbo Raid, MSI 815EP Pro Raid

Last question, why is it that I can't use cd-roms drives on the ata 100 promise card other than that they are ata33? The zip drive works on it.

i have the MSI K76-RAID board--and to set up a single drive on the ATA 100 RAID controller card, you need to set up a stripping array with just 1 drive...and that will do that for you.
