So I got a motherboard from someone since he upgraded his computer. I haven't gotten around to seeing how it works yet since I don't have a heatsink on it. Currently there are no mounts, so I don't know how I'd do that.

Motherboard: EVGA P/N 133-K8-NF41 Rev. 2.3

Processor's an AMD Athlon 64 x2. I have a stock AMD heatsink over at school. I'd have to get it shipped, but it's usable. However, I really want to strip another motherboard of its Pentium IV heatsink and just use that. Is this possible?

Thank you!

If it's a stock Intel P4 heatsink I doubt you would be able to mount it on your socket 939 motherboard.

The problem for you is that most of the less expensive socket 939 cpu coolers require the mounting bracket. You can pick up a bracket http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...1464967&Category=80149 and then shop around for a cheap socket 939 cooler, or just buy a more expensive cooler that doesn't need the bracket. I actually used one of these with my socket 939 motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16835118047 It's is a very effective, quiet cooler that doesn't use the factory bracket.

Decent deal for the aluminum/copper version on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...VI%26its%3DI%26otn%3D2
