Mobo USB performance

I have the 780G mobo from Gigabyte and I seem to have issues with USB speeds being somewhat irregular. Would a PCI card bypass this problem? Is there a utility to test USB speeds?

AMD's USB controller performance still lags Intel & nVidia.
Yes, a PCI USB card may well solve it & they are cheap.
