mobo upgrade - network down

I just upgraded my mobo/cpu but left my OS intact, now I get the message that the Workgroup is not accessible.

Two computers connected via a router - the internet connection is just fine from both boxes. I rebooted the router and checked the basics of Network ID. I'm assuming somethiung just needs to be toggled or reset, and the boundless wisdom of this forum will save me the tedium of the network troubleshooter.

As an aside, the mobo is an Asus A7N8X with 2 NICs onboard - of what value is the second one?

TIA

Change the workgroup name, reboot, change it back to what it should be then reboot again.

If that doesn't work. Come back for more.

Here I am, back for more...

yes I can ping the other computer, at least I can ping 192.168.0.102 and 104 and according to my router setup they are the two computers on the network.

However the LAN MAC table says; LAN IP: 192.168.0.101 and LAN IP: 192.168.0.104. I'm not sure how to interpret that.

yes, I did ipconfig from each box to confirm identity. I can ping each from the other.

Let me see if I have this right;

both computers access the internet via the router
and can ping each other
---------------so the router, nics and configurations are fine

neither computer can see the other one
the remote computer can see itself in Computers Near Me
the main computer cannot see any computers in Computers Near Me
---------------something is messed up in the workgroup configuration

I went through the network troubleshooter (Win2K) and everything checks out OK.
I've checked sharing and permissions and that all seems fine
System events show no DNS or DHCP errors
--------------the network itself is probably configured

what does that leave?
