At work I have gobs and gobs of 512 ECC DDR memory modules sitting around (they get chucked out because we throw higher capacity ones in.) As a result I'm looking to build a small (energy efficient and quiet) system that I can setup. Does anyone know of a good motherboard for this? Since it'll be sitting on my desk I'd like it to be small and quiet, it doesn't need to have any server features. From what I've seen, most mobos choke on ECC, or at least the systems I've tried it in. Any suggestions? The system will be a test bed for Exchange and stuff like that.

I thought about one of those cheap Dell systems, but they seem to be headed towards DDR-2. A shuttle system would be perfect for this...

Uh.. That's funky. If you're looking to use up ECC DDR memory, if it's registered you have a pretty easy, but slightly expensive router with any Opteron combo. With just ECC DDR, maybe take a look at something based upon the 875P chipset, also you can disable it I think in the BIOS.

Components that use registered RAM are more expensive anyway. You'll save money by using non registered ram.
