Mobo Temps: Chipset cooler than ambient?

Hi there...

I was looking at the Motherboard Monitor website to see which sensors were which on my MSI K7TPro motherboard and applying what that says, MBM reports that my "Primary Sensor Chip," which I assume is the motherboard chipset itself, is quite a bit cooler (around 8 degrees C) than even the ambient case temperature. Is this correct, or are these sensors supposed to be the other way around?

Here is the link to the page. The board is listed as "K7TPro MS6330."

Any explanations are welcome! 😀

what are the actual numbers?

assuming your room isnt to hot or cold the ambient should be somewhere around 23c... system anywhere from 25c-35c

The "Primary Sensor Chip" is usually around 21 degress C and the "Case Sensor" is around 26 degrees C.

Could you explain WHAT EXACTLY these two sensors are and what are the differences between the two? I'm confused now...

I have a baybus, and the "Case Sensor" temperature seems to be the most affected by turning fans on and off... in-fact the "Primary Sensor Chip" has not even changed in the last few minutes after turning on my big 120's, but both the CPU and "Case Sensor" have changed by about 3 degrees.

Ideas?

Yeah, this "Primary Sensor Chip" reading is not even changing, any, ever, no matter how many fans I have running or not running.

Hmmm....

the one thats not moving is probably the ambient temp (either that or its just a non funtioning sensor 🙂 )

the one that was 26 is most likely the system temp (northbridge)
and then the cpu tem will be the last one

a good way to verify would be to let the system run for awhile so the temps get up to normal operating levels... then reboot directly into bios and check the temps from bios

bios will probably only show system (northbridge) and cpu... match those up to the readings your getting from inside windows and you will know which is which

OK, you're right about the system and CPU temp ones, I had the chipset and ambient temps reversed...

now, with the ambient temp, it never EVER changes from 21C / 69.8F... even when I turn ALL of my 7 case fans off, it is still the same. Why would it not be working?

Thanks!
