as an upgrade option in case i dont get enough dosh to build a complete new rig i thought ill could jus upgrade the p4 rig i got

the only prob is that the ram is RDRAM, and the current mobo only supports 400fsb, and the higest chip IIRC is a 2.4 northwood which i have now.

if i upgraded the mobo to get faster cpu, then id need new ram too and id be back to square one building a complete new rig! almost

current mobo....gigabyt G sumthing TXE its got intel 850 chipset
is there a faster boards?

I'd scrap the whole thing and sell the RDRAM on eBay. Upgrade it all and get something like a 3.0C or A64 3000+.

That processor is not a slow one by any means. I think the RD-Ram woudl be the major thing holding back your performance. I would suggest you get a new board and some ddr and overclock that chip.
