Setting up a new system as follows :
Intel 4 2.8 CPU , 2 x Kingmax 512MB DDR 3200 , Radeon 9200 SE based videocard , Western Digital 80GB hard drive 7200 rpm , Viewsonic VP171b LCD monitor .
Not looking to overclock at all , but interested in stability and good non-overclocked performance . Was originally suggested the Aopen - MX4SG4DN mobo . As this uses the Intel 865G chipset with onboard graphics , I thought better to use an 865PE chipset mobo as no need for onboard graphics . The Aopen is also a micro ATX mobo . The only decent looking 865PE mobo this dealer has is Intel D865PERL . Would the Intel indeed be the better choice here , or possibly the fact that the Aopen is a much newer mobo , makes it better , even with the onboard graphics to be turned off ,and the micro ATX size ?
Another question - would a SATA drive make any difference here ?

aviwil, Intel boards are considered the "top of the heap" re stability. I wouldn't expect that the AOpen 865G board would be any better performer than the Intel 865PE.

As you see yourself using the board will you need more than three PCI? If not the feature sets between the two boards look comparable (on board LAN, on board audio, four USB out the back, w/ option for four more).

Re SATA, practically there's no discernable performance difference today. When native queing (I believe that's what it's called) is utilized on SATA drives and controllers then there may be something to talk about <g>.

Intel m/b know for quality and stability -

If your not overclocking, I would get a budget I865 M/B - Albatron I865Pro is one choice. It will save you $20 to $30.

IMHO
