mobo/ram question-ut2003

ive had a few posts concerning some computer hardware, and i really appreciacte your replies. but i have a few more questions


ive originally thoguht to buy a 9500np with my 650 mhz. many have told me it would be a waste so i have deicded to get one of the combo specials at my local comp store.


asus a7n266 mobo
amd athlon 2000+
256mb pc266
360w psu
8cm case fan
some weird ass case....

$313 canadian <--no choice cause i HAVE to buy there i cant order form net or whatever.


anyways, ive heard that the mobo has some probs....hmm, do any of you know about any of them? ive been to asus's website but its a diff model or something....-vm matx or something like a mini comp. but anyways, im wondering if any of you guys see a problem with this setup/or have known problems with this motherboard.

noob question--ddr 266 right (im 99% but just making sure its ddr)

from my understanding it comes with 10/100 lan too?

anyways, if it doesnt come with heatsink and fan then ill have to buy my own. any tips for installing it? if it comes with a thermal pad/thermal paste, how do i put it on and which is better if i need to purchase it?


lastly, like it wrote above it comes with an 8cm case fan. will that be enuf? i heard athlons need adequate cooling or they get fried pretty easy....

Yep, pc266 = pc2100 = ddr.

For specs on parts like the mobo you can torment yourself by going to newegg.com and looking at the item descriptions, there are even pictures and user comments.

(ed) and a 2000+ is fine for any game out now, at that speed the gameplay will be limited by how good your video card is. Even that Celeron 2.2 is good enough, just slower.

that's one argument for the celery I hate bending the clip over the lug with a screwdriver, hoping it doesn't slip and carve a nce gouge out of my shiny new mobo. P4 / Celeron retail HSF installation is much nicer.

Sad that they sell you weird parts and then make you assemble them yourself. Too bad you can't order from one of the canadian mail-order companies and at least get the best parts.
