Thanks for taking the time to read.

In any case I'm at an impasse with some older hardware. Basically the jist of it is that I am trying to put together another computer using spare parts. I was able to piece together a system but I realized I had no RAM. Since the price of ram is so expensive now (DDR2), I was wondering if it was worthwhile to spend the money on DDR2 for an already aging assortment of parts or just go with something newer.

Basically I'm trying to see if it is worthwhile to just buy a new CPU/MOBO/DDR3 Ram capable motherboard or sink money into my assortment now.

Here is what I have now:

Mobo

CPU

As it stands a NEW set of 4GB DDR2 ram would run a minimum of $80 bucks shipped and taxes. If I went with a newer Mobo / CPU combo and DDR3 ram, I think I can possibly get that all for $250 or under (with >= 4GB Ram) and have much better performance overall.

So I'm deciding whether or not the extra (I assume) roughly $160 is a good tech leap forward. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If it makes things easier, what I will be using the spare computer for is not important. What is important is the value if using newer tech against what I have. If this was an e-mail computer for the folks for example; I wouldn't even take the time to ask the question :)
