Mobo/processor upgrade won't "restart" in WinME?

Just upgraded an old Gateway (P166) case with a CUSL2 & P3 750. Works fine except restart option in windows shutdown gives me "Windows shutdown in progress" then a blank screen, but the power supply is still running. The restart button on the case works so I don't think I have any wires crossed (if that matters). TIA for any help.

have you checked startmenu-run-msconfig-disable fast shutdown something...?
mine win vers. is danish... so i can't remeber what it's called in english?
well, you usually need to install a new ver. just from updating your bios... soo, try installing me again.

Do you have an SBLive in that system? If so, you need to do the following:

Set IRQ 5 Reserved to Yes in PCI/PNP Resource Exclusion list in the BIOS

Disable Legacy USB in the BIOS.

Thanks guys. Yes Andy, it's an X-gamer. I'll try your advice later today.
Julian, I don't see any such option in msconfig. I sorta remember something like what you're talking about but maybe that was in Win98. As for reinstalling, this is a fresh install of ME. Thanks for your efforts anyway.

I made the changes you suggested Andy, but it didn't help. Any more ideas anybody?

Thanks for the link bacillus. I had no idea there were that many shutdown issues. Guess I've been lucky up till now. I think the fast shutdown option must have been eliminated in ME, I can't find it. Can anyone confirm this...just in case I'm having a blon..I mean blind moment!

I assume that Gateway has an ATX PS. I had a similar problem before with an Epox ATX super7 board and my ATX power supply. The only solution that worked was for a clean install of WinME from scratch.
