I have a MSI 6309 , with a PIII 700 , not overclocked . I built the system and installed windows and my video card and mobo drivers .

OK , the problem is when the computer is off , and you push the power button , the power comes on , power LED and HDD LED , but it does not boot up . In fact , the monitor does not power up . But if you push the reset button , it boots up and runs fine .
If you restart while it is running it reboots fine .

It seems like it must be a bios setting might be wrong , maybe something in the power management part ???

Here's a long shot but could it be your hard drive isn't getting up to speed fast enough for the boot sequence to procede. Try diabling the "fastboot" option in the BIOS which will give a full memory check and allow your harddrive time to spinup. If that doesn't do it a little more info on your PC would be helpful.

I had problems with my 6309 as well, not quite like yours. Be sure that the power sw is properly connected at the mobo, that ALL the connectors are correct and tight, then disable all the power saving stuff, and try again. It may be booting into sleep or suspend mode.I know that when I get frustrated, I have a tendency to overlook the obvious, and get lost in the weeds. With my board, I must leave all the power saving stuff off except for o/s system compliance, because the vid card doesn't like acpi or apm.

You can try the following ... press the on switch continuously, most likely the pc will start, then switch off. Release the pressure. Press again and release immediately, then it will start. You can also try to hit the reset switch just asfter booting, then it should start. As far as i remember, i think www.overclockers.com reported a behaviour like the one you are observing when they reviwed the MSI 6309.
