I just built my 1st AMD this week:
Athlon 1.333GHz
FIC AD11 mobo
Crucial PC2100 DDR, ECC 256MB x 2
HSF-Thermalright SK6 w/Delta 38
Win2K Pro SP2

The monitoring software, 1stAID, which came with the FIC board was disappointing. It uses a lot of system resources, has an awkward interface, and really annoying graphics. I miss my Asus Probe software that I came with my former P3V4X/Celeron setup.

So ditching that piece-o-**** software for a shareware version of Hardware Sensor Monitor 4.0.2.2 Pro. I like it so far but have a few Q?s:

It appears this software can display 3 temp sensors and ?guesses? the device attached to the sensor temp. For example, my temps are displayed as ?Mainboard-24C, CPU-41C, and M/B-27C?. I can, in the settings, change the order of the labels or select another name for each of the three temps.

Q1) I definitely know 41C is my CPU temp, and one of the other two is my mobo temp. but what exactly does the 24C and 27C refer to? Is one chipset and one mobo surface temp?

Q2) What?s the difference between the labels M/B and Mainboard? Or is one just an abbreviation?

Q3) There?s a feature to ?Throttle? down your CPU. It?s supposed to allow you to reduce your CPU?s heat output by virtually reducing the clock (ie. 1GHz @ 50% throttle = 500MHz). This appears to come in handy for an unattended safety measure but it appears to do nothing in Win2K. Has anyone got this to work?

Q4) Any other downloadable monitoring software that cool? Or better?

Thanks in advance to everyone!
