Mobo going bad?

Just changed out a CPU and upon powerup got a long single error code.

Swapped around the RAM and found that I only got the errors while using DIMM2 and DIMM3
slots. DIMM1 appears to be ok.

Had a test stick in DIMM 3 and I saw a spark flare up and immediately shut down.

System boots up fine and all looks good in BIOS with just 1 stick in DIMM1.

Is it safe to run it like this or should I advise that the board be changed?

Mobo/system details would help! If it's the one in your sig then I would RMA it, but I've got a feeling it isn't. Older mobos used to be picky and that DIMM1 would need to be first populated. If this is the case then you need not be concerned.

Just to make sure, try putting RAM sticks in both DIMM1 and DIMM2/3. If it boots up fine and recognises it then you have no need to be worried.

I'm a little cautious on the sparks though!

thanks Chilled

no its not my rig....

Its an older board. DIMM 3 fried my test stick.

Appears the board is going bad and is not able to run enough voltage.
All in all a BIG risk to run it, so I told the guy he needed to buy a new board.

Ordered an Asus board last night.

I'd rather not take any chances.....
