I'm considering building a Pee-4 system and was curious what the best stable chipset is that has DDR support?

Suggestions on a motherboard would be great too...

TIA.

Both the i845D and the SiS645 chipsets are stable.

For massive overclocks, I recommend the i845D based ASUS P4B266.

For best performance out of the box with PC2700 DDR SDRAM, the SiS645 based ASUS P4S333 is good.

Andy,
Thanks for the recommendation of the p4b266. I have another post, on the general hardware forum, asking what is the best, most stable p4 ddr board for oc'ing, and you seem to have summed it up quite nicely here. After reading lots of reviews, I think this is the board I will buy for my new rig (w/ a 1.6A).

I use the Biostar M7SXF. It's not as fast as the Intel i845 out of the gate (default FSB), but overclocks way better.

DISCLAIMER: I'm using PC2700 RAM. This makes all the difference in the world as I am running my NW at a 166 MHz FSB. The problem is that PC2700 costs a lot. Fortunately, the price difference between the Biostar and an Intel branded board is enough to justify the price of PC2700 RAM. ;)

It's rock solid, I must say. Never crashes or locks and can run a 1.6 at over 2 GHz all day long.

Besides... the board looks cool with it's blue PCB. Makes me want to get a blue cold cathode. :D
