I was wondering what mobo you would suggest for an amd 1600+? Ecs would be nice and so would the epox but what about the chipsets? Is the kt266a better than the sis735? I heard that a lot of people recently have gotten doa shuttle boards. Should i buy from newegg since they have pretty good product?

sweeeet...The best mobo for that is my mobo. I will send you the address to sent that CPU.;)

Seriously, from the post I have been following, the kt266a is better than the sis735. The selection is slim for this chipset. I have only seen ECS.:(

The kt266a is still in its first release, as anything there are still things to be ironed out.;)

Here's a vote for the Epox 8KHA+ which is incredible. All of the newer boards are coming with the "N" bios chip and people are having great success with them. I have the "K" bios chip and had some reboot probs initially, but when I updated the bios to 11/02 they disappeared. It's easy to set up, overclocks better than most, and the Alpha PAL8045 will fit on it - barely :D From what I've seen around the forums, their service & support has been pretty good, too. Good luck!

from specs i would go with leadteak sis 735mobo.
$103 and has a 1/5 and 1/6 divider.

i have a epox 8kha+ and taking it back to many problems. trying out the leadtek. it has future proof as well since it supports 333mhz ddr and 400mhz ddr

:)

I haven't had the luxury of testing multiple boards with the XP processor but my Shuttle AK31 3.1 has been a dream come true. $81 at Newegg. Easy to set up for the not-so-experienced (me;)) and reasonably proced. Newegg is a great online retailer. I recommend them for whatever you decide to get.

First Epox 8KHA+ I built and was easy to build booted up with no problems and what got me was the speed of the KT266A chipset, have a XP1900 on it and why even overclock with this kind of speed, Cause it is there I know

Epox 8KHA+ all the way. I built a sis735 ecs system the week before I buitl my new rig this week. Same xp 1600 chips. I even have an unopened ECS 735 board right next to me, but I LOVE my new Epox.
I do have some restart/soft boot issues, but thats only at 150FSB--1584mhz and the board showing my 1600 as a 1900 :)
Fast/stable and fairly easy to set up!
