Mobo for 8800GTS, not gonna SLI

I know the 650i Ultra is around the corner, but still probably a couple of months down the road. I was just about the purchase a system with the abit aw9d-max mobo and a gf7950gt, but i decided might as well go with the 8800gts since its going to be connected to a 1080p sony LCD...what benefits, if any, would i have if i waited for the 650i ultra? Should i just go ahead with the aw9d-max and the 8800gts? or should i just buy the evga 680i available right now? (im not gonna sli or use that 3rd pcie slot) I know i should wait for things to settle down...but im eager to spend my money!
