Mobo drivers first or VGA drivers first?

It seems XP is very good at finding drivers for most items. The device mgr. still shows the drivers are not installed for 2 devices; multimedia audio controller, and video controller. When I last tried to use the disc that came with the mobo(ECS K8T890-A) I think I choose normal installation. After the first reboot it said windows wouldn't start due to missing or corrupt system 32\drivers\pci.sys. I used the XP disc & ran repair.Back to looking normal, except for missing drivers on audio and video. Are those the only 2 drivers that need to be installed? XP found all the rest of the mobo drivers, correct? Do I change the boot device order back to HDD now? Maybe that caused a conflict? TIA.

You should always insall drivers for your motherboard chipsets along with video and audio drivers. Even Windows XP SP2 is a little old to rely on for your drivers in most cases.

Get your Via chipset drivers here. Choose the latest one, don't install the IDE filter driver if it comes with it. You won't need it with SP2.

Get your audio driver here. Go down to Sound for Realtek codec.

Also get your LAN/ethernet driver there.

Video driver depends on your video card... Get it from either ATI or nVidias website.

Don't use the drivers that come with the motherboard on a CD, they are usually old.
