Mobo damage from CPU?

Hey there,

My P4 2.6 GHZ CPU was running hot (90 C) because of a heatsink problem. I'm going to exchange it for a new CPU from NewEgg but I'm just wondering if anyone thinks there would be any damage to my 865PERL mobo? I'm pretty sure there wouldn't be any damage to the mobo if the CPU runs hot, but I'm not too knowledgable on all of this.

I never did any overclocking and I've only had this PC for a few days (I built it).

And now my Antec blue LED fan is blinking. I have no idea why that is. Any ideas?

Your right, most likely the motherboard was NOT damaged by your (hopefully) short experience with your cpu running at 90C.

why would a heatsink problem justify a newegg RMA?
Intel CPUs arent damaged my heatsink problems like AMD cpus, they have advanced clock throttling that compensate CPU speed to maintain a maximum core temp below the damage level.

were you using a retail HS/fan?
what exactly was your heatsink problem?

The heatsink wasn't making full contact with the CPU.

I talked to Intel techs and what they said is that it should have turned off at 90C because that "is way too hot". I have read things about the thermal throttling, too. I know it prevents from "catastrophic" processor failure, but I wasn't aware if it prevents it from damage.
